Michael is a founding shareholder and Chairman of the Sheffield Haworth Executive Board. He is the owner of the spread betting firm City Index and chairman of Numis Securities and Group Chief Executive of ICAP, the largest broking operation in the world.

In 2007, Mr Spencer was named Entrepreneur of the Year at the European Business Leader Awards. He was also awarded the prestigious Beacon Fellowship Prize for setting up ICAP's Charity Day.
