Sheffield Haworth offered me a great opportunity to take a new career direction following eight enjoyable years as a credit salesman in London.
I was hired in October 2005 to come to Hong Kong and build a Wealth and Asset Management coverage practice from scratch to cover the Asia Pacific region. One of the immediate benefits of joining a global boutique was to be able to draw on the extensive experience of colleagues already in London and then New York, and maintain a specialist offering to potential clients.
Search offered me the opportunity to leverage my financial services experience and develop the multi dimensional skills required of a search consultant; business development, client relationship management and keeping fully up to date with developments in financial markets. As well as the search dimension, Sheffield Haworth has given me a challenging opportunity from a management perspective to be responsible for leading and building our business in the Asia Pacific.
In 2007, I was appointed Head of Office and immediately embarked on an expansion programme to increase our capability to carry out work across the financial services spectrum from our Hong Kong base and position ourselves as one of the top financial services boutiques in the region and then replicating that in Tokyo. The global reach we have as a firm, coupled with our specialist coverage capability in the market has enabled Asia to attract high calibre individuals to come and work for us. There are several examples in Hong Kong of individuals who have joined as associates and been promoted to consultant and become extremely successful in their chosen field - this happens throughout the Sheffield Haworth network.
It is this environment of opportunity to progress that I am keen to maintain.
Mark relocated back to London in 2009 to become Global Head of the Hedge Fund practice.
